Not all power metal is epic power metal, but there are certain power metal albums that make a point of being as epic as possible — and Sabaton’s Coat of Arms is one of them. Everything about this 2010 release is epic and proud of it; we’re talking epic melodies, epic hooks, epic lyrics, and big, fist-pumping epic choruses. Short of Manowar, one would be hard-pressed to find a more epic power metal disc than Coat of Arms. But while a lot of power metal operates in the fantasy realm lyrically, Sabaton’s lyrics deal with actual historic events — specifically, events during wartime. About the Band

Swedish band Sabaton have been a major force in the power metal field since the mid-‘00s, but had to battle through significant difficulties to get there, which may explain their eventual creative obsession with everything war-related. Originally founded in 1999 and comprised of Joakim Brodén (vocals and keyboards), Rickard Sundén (guitar), Oskar Montelius (guitar), Daniel Myhr (keyboards, beginning in 2006), Pär Sundström (bass), and Richard Larsson (drums), the enterprising group quickly produced two demo tapes that were later released in a limited edition as Fist for Fight in 2002… Read more on allmusic.com
